Small Towns in Texas – Exploring and Discovering Treasures

Small Towns in Texas — One of our favorites aspects of RV Life is exploring small towns, and we discovered some great ones in Texas. We’ve traveled through Texas several times in our first year as RV Nomads. Considering that three major interstates (I-10, I-20, and I-40) run east and west through the state of Texas, chances are, if you’re traveling in an RV around the country, you’ll be passing through the state at some point. In our first year we passed through Texas three times !!

RV Coffee – So many choices

Making coffee in an RV involves some different considerations than making coffee in a normal sticks and brick house. We gave some thought on what would work best for us and did a bunch of “research” — i.e., YouTube watching and Google searching on different methods for making coffee. Let’s just say there’s an overwhelming amount of information out there, but after sifting through numerous different methods, we decided to devise our own version of the pour-over method.

Coast to Coast Motorcycle Trip – Epic Journey of Transformational Change

In 2018, we changed everything about our lives — retiring from corporate careers, selling our home and all our possessions, starting nomad business ventures and full-time RV travel. We kicked off this huge life transformation with a 26-day coast-to-coast motorcycle trip to reboot our minds and cleanse our spirits. Along the way, we posted our adventures, thoughts, and impressions on Facebook. To celebrate the one-year anniversary of that trip, we’ve pulled together all the posts into a single blog entry here.

Lake Lanier Duckett Mill

Lake Lanier Duckett Mill Campground, Army Corps of Engineers; Gainesville, GA Campground Review

Lake Lanier is a beautiful lake in north Georgia with one of our favorite campgrounds so far – Lake Lanier Duckett Mill ! The campground is operated by the Army Corps of Engineers, located in north Georgia outside Gainesville, and is right on the shores of Lake Lanier. We will definitely be returning to this campground as it’s only a 30 minute drive from our younger son’s home. We were here for two different stays — one in early May and one in early June of 2019 and were very pleased both times.

Natchez Trace – Running Away to Tennessee with the Clarks

We’ve been on a roll lately with being able to meet up with RV friends. We first met Chris and Donna Clark of Runaway with the Clarks last October right before NomadFEST. They were at the same campground we were at along with Phil and Stacy Farley of You, Me & the RV. After our initial meeting at The Ole Towne Cotton Gin RV Park, we palled around at NomadFEST and then met up again for the Annual Xscapers Bash in January in Lake Havasu, AZ. We followed up the bash with some boondocking down in Quartzsite and Empire Ranch and also met up briefly at a winery in Texas. Sadly, we went our separate ways in March, but we had a chance for a week long visit in the Natchez Trace area of Tennessee during the last week of May.

Natchez Trace Wilderness Preserve

Natchez Trace Wilderness Preserve; Hohenwald, TN – Thousand Trails – Campground Review

We’re doing another review of a Thousand Trails campground due to the unique features and experience at this RV park. We had planned to be at Natchez Trace Wilderness Preserve for the last two weeks of May but only stayed one night. While this park has many things going for it, there was one aspect that was a total deal breaker for us. First, let’s review the basics.

Wheeling with the Wendes

Wheeling Around Mobile AL with the Wendes

One of our favorite aspects of RV life is the wonderful friends we’ve made already in our first year. We met Lance and Flo Wende of Wheelin’ with the Wendes this past January at the Xscapers Annual Bash in Lake Havasu, AZ. We followed up the bash with some boondocking down in Quartzsite, and the Wende’s were part of the group of friends we corraled with during the latter part of January. We went our separate ways in February, but we had a chance for an extended stop on our way to Georgia in late March, so we took that opportunity to be neighbors with the Wendes where they were camped in southern Alabama and checked out some attractions around Mobile AL.

Carolina Landing Campground Review

Carolina Landing RV Resort; Fair Play, SC – Thousand Trails – Campground Review

We stayed at Carolina Landing RV Resort for ten days in early May. We were in the Carolinas area for business reasons and also were able to visit with our sons while we were in the region. We don’t do full reviews on every Thousand Trails RV park we stay in because they’re fairly consistent in experience. However, this one is different enough from the norm that we thought it would be good to share our experience.
